December Artist in Residence – Carole Herwig

Carole Herwig is a talented fine artist and illustrator known for her extraordinary artistic vision and ability to capture emotion through her work. With an Associate’s degree in Fine Arts and a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a specialization in Animation, Carole brings a rare combination of technical skill, creativity, and discipline to every piece she creates. Her artistic path began even before her academic training, during her years as a tattoo artist—a period that sharpened her eye for detail, strengthened her hand, and infused her work with a deep appreciation for personal storytelling through art.

Although Carole excelled in her animation studies, the journey ultimately helped her recognize that animation itself was not her true passion. Instead, it illuminated her natural affinity for fine art and illustration, guiding her toward a more fulfilling creative direction. She embraced this clarity, allowing her experiences—both in and outside the classroom—to shape a distinct artistic voice rooted in authenticity and exploration.

A key part of Carole’s creative process involves the thoughtful manipulation of photographs in Photoshop, using digital tools to experiment with lighting, composition, and mood before bringing pieces to life on canvas or paper. This hybrid approach allows her to bridge the digital and traditional realms, creating works that feel both contemporary and timeless. She gravitates toward realism and pin-up art, genres that highlight her ability to capture the human form with precision, character, and a touch of playfulness.

Working primarily in drawing and painting, Carole is always pushing herself to develop pieces that resonate on a deep, emotional level. Her work invites viewers to pause, reflect, and engage—whether through a stirring portrait, a bold reinterpretation of classic styles, or an image that sparks curiosity and conversation. With each new project, she continues to expand her artistic horizons while remaining committed to producing art that connects, inspires, and leaves a lasting impression.
